In my last Pre-LASIK Blog, we shared with you how the LASIK process starts before the actual LASIK surgery. Once you are deemed a suitable candidate during your pre-Lasik assessments, your LASIK Surgeon will share essential aspects of your Lasik surgery step by step. The whole idea is that you remain informed, relaxed, and calm while you are going through the few-minute LASIK procedure and ready to live a life without the burden of wearing Eyeglasses or contact lenses. Here is how it goes!
Here is how it goes during a LASIK Eye Surgery?
- Administering Anaesthetic eye drops: Before the surgery begins, numbing eye drops are administered to ensure you experience minimal discomfort. To make an incision for accessing the cornea, a surgical tool called a microkeratome or its advanced substitute femtosecond laser is then used to create a thin, hinged flap on the cornea. This flap is gently lifted, exposing the underlying corneal tissue.
- Use of Excimer Laser: Following that, your LASIK surgeon will utilize an excimer laser directed at your eye using a specific LASIK suite to smooth out the corneal abnormalities and so treat refractive errors such as near-sightedness (Myopia), farsightedness (Hyperopia), and astigmatism. During the Excimer Laser reshaping stage, some individuals may notice mild pressure on their eyes. Still, there is no pain, mainly if the LASIK platform is modern and operated by a skilled LASIK surgeon.
- Customized corneal reshaping: The laser sculpts the cornea based on the personalized measurements obtained during the preoperative assessment. The entire procedure is swift, often taking less than 15 minutes for both eyes. Once the corneal reshaping is complete, your Laisk surgeon carefully repositions the flap and soon begins the natural healing process.
- Post-Surgery Recovery: After a good Laisk surgery, recovery is quick, and many people notice their vision getting better almost right away. At first, you might feel some grittiness or slight discomfort, but this usually goes away in a day or two. After surgery, you should rest for a short time, and you may be given eye covers to protect your eyes while you sleep.
The majority of LASIK patients get 20/20 vision or better after LASIK eye surgery, which is meant to reduce your need for eyeglasses.
